I digiscrapping and my favorite place to scrap online has been with my friends at Deco-Pages! I was a member Creative Team for 4 1/2 years and had the opportunity to make LOs for all the wonderful designers at Deco-Pages. The site is now closed and I miss it so VERY much!

I am taking a break from my digital scrapping...but to prevent withdrawal symptoms, I am on two Creative Teams for now! Check out their blogs and watch here for my layouts with their great kits!

Working on Ladies Retreat

Our Church is having a Ladies Retreat and the theme is Branded By Love.  I was asked to work up a brochure advertising the retreat which I loved getting to do.  First started with a Logo and you can see that in the top name tag.  I used Traci's rope heart but I couldn't find in all my "stash" a brand, so I designed the brand. That was fun and since I made it I could use the word LOVE for the brand.  My "sunflower" friend, Marsha is leading a session on discovering your personality based on the colors of green, blue, yellow (gold), and orange.  Each lady is getting a tin cup with a bandana of one of these colors tied to it.  Once the ladies discover their personality color, they get a dot to add to their name tag.  (I put a yellow dot on my name tag in the LO...Marsha told me she bet I would discover that I have a gold personality?!?  Will be interesting to find out if she's right.  Since we are using peel and stick name tags, we needed one for each day.  The top one will be used for Friday night and the bottom tag will be used on Saturday since that's when the color session will be presented.  The "Wanted Poster" is to be used for a "Getting to Know You" activity.  Decided it needed a bandana background and I couldn't find ones in the colors needed, so I made my first bandana print.  I used dingbats for the crosses and paisley designs...another fun project but took a little time.  I have 48 Wanted Posters all printed and with white edges trimmed and two sets of name tags for the so far 42 ladies registered printed and ready.  I made around 300 chocolate, peanut butter, and mint flavored candies in all 4 colors using western theme molds.

The only thing left for me to do is clean house as my mom and her friend are coming to the retreat and will be at my house during part of the weekend.  I decided to scrap a page as I needed to unwind from my marathon of projects before starting on the house.  We have gem studded horseshoes and branding irons for decorations...thus the gem studded horseshoe in the LO.  There will be a wonderful devotional using horseshoes, saddles, chaps, cowboy hats, and tumbleweeds to describe our relationship with the Lord.  You can find this devotional HERE!  While there check out the whole website...Julie has many wonderful and creative ideas for a Ladies Ministry. Oh, I forgot...I made a handout with of this devotional and added elements and clip art for the ladies to take home with them.   Another lady printed them on colored paper I found in my paper scrapping stash that matched our color theme. One lady has a stamping craft project planned and 4 ladies from our church will be sharing their amazing testimonies.  And, our own award-winning western singer/songwriter will be providing inspirational and fun music throughout the weekend.

Now, I just hope that I will be able to participate in the weekend.  We included on the brochure Please, No colognes or fragranced lotions...but, couldn't say no deodorant, mousse, hairspray, fabric softener, etc.  I will wear my mask, but it's a little scary to be in a confined area with 40+ women.  Thankfully, the weather is supposed to be good.  I will probably spend most of the retreat on the patio where I can still hear what's being presented and it will give me a break from wearing my mask for hours on end.  There are some benches away from the retreat center where I can go and remove my mask so I can eat away from all others.  The retreat center is only 8 miles from our church.  I'll be able to go home for the night and sleep mask free.  Even if I only get to be present for part of the weekend, it was fun getting to do my small part to help with the planning and preparation for making what surely will be a great weekend for all who will be there.

  1. Wonderful, wonderful! Your devotion to the project and your creativity are so beautifully displayed. I imagine the retreat as such a positive experience. Almost wish I could come! Sure hope you will be able to participate as fully as possible. Looking back at all the designs you created, I am so impressed. Love the bandanna border and the brand both.

  2. You constantly amaze me, not just with your creativity but with the variety of arts and crafts you´re proficient at! I think the entire poster is wonderful and I enjoyed mentally ticking off all the things on your wanted list which apply – or more often don´t apply – to me. I only found 5! You know at least 2 of them already. I especially like your very humane branding iron and all the other extra bits and pieces you designed yourself.
I imagine the retreat started at the weekend and is still going on. I hope you and all your friends are enjoying it and I also hope that your mask will keep you safe from any lavender scented cowgirls...

  3. Oh Jean, it would have been wonderful if you could have come! And, of course, the offer to stay with me still stands if you ever come this far south bird watching!

Okay Helen, let's see! I was thinking of Marsha when I added the clothesline item, but then you came to mind as well. You are the only two people I know who still hang clothes on a clothesline! Of course, I know you are from Scotland, not Texas. Let's see, don't think you drive a truck though I have never thought to ask what you drive...oh, there was the time you drove home from the dentist and arrived safely...I wasn't picturing you in a truck. I'm thinking you have never been to a rodeo. The last one is a toss up between making homemade bread and knowing what "cowgirl up" means! Sense you have told me about some of the wonderful breads you bought on a shopping trip, I'll go with you know what "cowgirl up" means. Interesting, my mom didn't know what that means and she's a Texas...LOL! But somehow, I just feel like you would know! Oh, you are also welcome to stay with him if you ever get to come to the USA!

The retreat was fun, but as you know it wasn't a lavender scented cowgirl to got me...it was, I don't know what scented air freshener that got me when I thought I was safe to pull my mask off in the restroom. At least I lasted 3 1/2 hours before having to be driven home!

  4. Ha! I haven´t the foggiest what cowgirl up means unless it means up on a horse...and I have ridden one, by the way but I´m far better at baking bread. I used to make it by hand until I got a machine. I only buy white bread in the Netherlands because it´s sliced thinly so it makes better toast. Well, you narrowed it down to 2.
Hope you´ve fully recovered now from your misadventure. You´d think that at least the restroom would be safe. Get well soon.
